About Linda

Why Work With Linda?

Working with animals has been my lifelong passion. From a very young age I have owned and ridden horses, competing at state level. For almost 10 years I was employed as a groom on a thoroughbred stud in NSW and during that time I gained extensive knowledge and skills handling not only horses, but sheep and cattle and the working dogs on the property.

Twenty-eight years ago I moved to Cairns and my journey training dogs began.

I was employed as a kennel hand at the Young Animal Protection Society (YAPS) Refuge and Boarding Facility and progressed to assistant manager in that role.

Founder Of Canine Training School

Through my involvement with this organisation, and my experience with horses, I was then employed by the Cairns Regional Council as an animal control officer. During those three years I gained extensive experience in all aspects of identifying canine behaviour and relevant handling processes. My love of education evolved, working with dog owners on a daily basis, and also through the delivery of our school-based education program.

During this time I worked alongside the founder of Canine Training School, and my life mentor in working with dogs, Carol Jarman. We worked as council officers during the day, and she guided me through the dog obedience training process with her business at night. After leaving the council I worked for Carol in her dog hydrobath business and continued to train dogs under Canine Training School.

Helping People And Advocating For Dogs

I am now the owner-operator of Canine Training School. Helping people and advocating for dogs continues to be my greatest reward. I am proud to be involved in many community-based programs, school education and early learning dog/child safety sessions are something that I believe are so important for the future of dog ownership. I was the founder of a foster care dog program at Lotus Glen Correctional Facility. "4 Paws on the Inside" was the state winner in the category of Fostering Innovation in a Qld Correctional Facility in 2016.

I work closely with an organisation called Whiskey’s Wish Inc, they offer rehabilitation through task trained service dogs for veterans, first responders and correctional officers. Dogs can make such a difference to the lives of so many; my work also touches several other groups that work in this field.

Our Training Programs

Our training programs continue to evolve, and our personal education and training never ends. My knowledge and experience has evolved from years of holding dog leads in my hand. You cannot read this in a book or watch this on a video...
